Clean a Non-Stick Pan Safely

Non Stick Pan          Nonstick pans are a breakthrough of modern cookery. Nonstick pans have a special coating on them to prevent food from sticking to the pan while cooking. The coating creates a slippery surface so food does not adhere to it. Sometimes food does cling to a nonstick pan due to the high heat. However, they are easier to clean than regular pans. Follow these steps to safely clean your nonstick pans.

Step 1

SinkSoak the nonstick pan in hot water in the sink. Use the hottest water your sink can produce. Fill the pan with water and let it sit for a few hours. This serves to soften up any hard grease that is stuck to the pan. The water has to be very hot however for this method to be effective.

Step 2

Liquid Dishwashing SoapPut a dab of liquid dishwashing soap on a sponge. Lather the sponge and rub the pan with the sponge in a circular motion. Make sure to clean both sides of the nonstick pan.

Step 3

Harsh SpongeIf step 2 does not remove all of the food particles from the pan, then use a more abrasive sponge. This includes either a brillo pad or the backside of a dual purpose sponge which contains a rough surface. Lather up again and repeat the cleaning procedure. This should definitely remove any caked on grease now. You may have to put some pressure on the sponge to finish cleaning the nonstick pan.

Step 4

Do not use a fork or knife to scrape off food on a nonstick pan. Under no circumstances should you do this. A fork and knife will scrape off part of the nonstick surface and leave scratches in the pan. Continued scraping of a nonstick pan will result in most of the coating being removed.

Step 5

Rinse the nonstick pan in warm water and dry with a paper towel.
