How to Kill Mold with Antifungal Shampoo

Bathroom Mold          Household mold is a serious health problem. It can cause flu like symptoms, make asthma sufferers worse, and give you trouble breathing. Many people are also allergic to mold and don’t even know it. It is best to remove all mold and fungus from your house to be safe. There are several antifungal shampoos on the market that are effective at killing mold fungus as well as scalp fungus. Shampoos containing the chemical ketacozanole can accomplish this task.

Step 1

Purchase a bottle of antifungal shampoo with the highest concentration of active ingredient. This may have to be an extra strength version. You can find these at pharmacy locations.

Step 2

Purchase a new set of sponges to use for application of the antifungal solution to kill the mold.

Step 3

Put a large dab of the shampoo on the sponge along with a little water. Rub the two ends of the sponge together to mix the shampoo and water into the sponge and build up lather.

Step 4

Sponge the shampoo onto any surface where you see the mold including the bathroom ceiling, tiles, walls, etc. You will have to keep reapplying shampoo and water to the sponge during this procedure because the sponge will quickly run out of antifungal shampoo as you apply it.

Step 5

Let the antifungal shampoo dry onto the mold. It will take some time for the active ingredient in the shampoo to kill the mold fungus.

Step 6

Portable DehumidifierInstall a portable dehumidifier in the house where the mold problem was. Most likely this will be the bathroom in most homes. Mold will not survive in a climate with low humidity. Try to keep the humidity levels in the bathroom below 40% relative humidity to keep the mold spores at bay.

Step 7

Repeat steps 3 thru 5 again within a few days to remove any more remaining mold.

Additional Advice

Some of the antifungal shampoos have colorings added to them which may stain your ceilings and walls. If this is the case after the shampoo dries in a few days just use a sponge with some water to wipe off the residual shampoo.

Keep your house ventilated to prevent future mold outbreaks.
