How to Kill Mold with Tea Tree Oil

Bathroom Mold          Bathroom mold is a common problem in high humidity climates such as the Northeast. It is a big nuisance and also a health hazard as it can cause a wide variety of problems. There are different types of mold with varying degrees of hazard. Mold can appear black, green, and pink in color. The most common colors of house hold mold are black and pink. Tea tree oil is a natural remedy that has antifungal and antibacterial properties. Follow these steps for an all natural way to kill household mold with tea tree oil.




Step 1

Tea Tree Oil Kills MoldPurchase a bottle of 100% natural tea tree oil. You can find this at your local health food store in the vitamin section. You can also research this product online and buy one from a website. There are many brands out there. Just make sure it is a bottle of 100% pure tea tree oil. You will dilute it later.



Step 2

Mildew Removal Spray BottlePurchase an empty plastic spray bottle to use for your tea tree mixture. A 1 liter or larger bottle will suffice.










Step 3

Fill about 1/8th of the spray bottle with tea tree oil. Fill up the rest of the bottle with water. Sink water is fine. Now shake the tea tree mixture bottle vigorously for a minute or so to make sure the solution is mixed will.



Step 4

Spray a generous amount of your tea tree oil mixture anywhere you see mold on your bathroom ceiling, tiles, or anywhere else. Then use a new dry sponge to rub the tea tree oil mixture into the mold so it will kill it.



Step 5

Dehumidifier for moldInstall a dehumidifier in the bathroom and run it all the time to remove the moisture from the air. Mold cannot thrive in a low humidity environment. It cannot reproduce with its spores and spread. Try to keep the humidity levels in the bathroom below 40% with the dehumidifier at all times.



Step 6

Repeat steps 3 and 4 one week later to kill any remaining mold you may have missed.

 

Additional Advice

                   Tea tree oil has a strong smell to it. But it will only last a few days before it goes away. It will not harm you.

                   Keep the rooms with mold well ventilated to help prevent future outbreaks.
