How to Get into MIT

          MIT or Massachusetts Institute of Technology is the number one technical and science university in the world. Some of the world’s best minds such as many of the first astronauts on the moon were MIT graduates. MIT is the college leader in many science fields such as engineering, mathematics, and physics. The university was founded in 1861 and remains the leader in science based education. It is also one of the most difficult colleges in the world to get into. If you want to gain acceptance to MIT you have a very long and difficult road ahead of you. Good luck in your quest to get accepted to MIT. Here are a few pointers to get you started on the right path.


Step 1

Enroll in an SAT prep class and purchase SAT prep material. The average SAT scores in Math and English to get into MIT are in the 700’s. If you scored low in your SAT it is suggested that you purchase several SAT prep books and practice thoroughly. Also you will want to take the SAT’s several times so that you can obtain a high score. The college will take your highest scores from each test.


Step 2

Make sure that your senior and junior high school grades and GPA are as high as possible. You will need your GPA to be as close to 4.0 as possible to get into MIT. MIT is one of the most competitive universities in the world so you need to be one of the best and brightest students in order to get in. If your GPA is not that high, you should still apply to MIT but be forewarned that you may not get accepted.

Step 3

Compose an amazing college entrance essay. MIT is no different than other colleges when it comes to the college entrance essay. Since MIT is primarily a science and math based university you may want to highlight how you excel in some special way in those subjects.



Step 4

In order to stay competitive against all the other students applying to MIT you will have to enhance your extracurricular activities in high school. It may be prudent to excel at a musical instrument or two such as the piano and violin. In addition, being involved in activities such as your high school’s robotics club, math club, or student government.


Step 5

Don’t put all your emphasis into getting into one college such as MIT. Strive to get into MIT but choose several other schools to apply to. There are many fantastic science and engineering universities out there and it is not necessary to get into MIT to get a stellar education.
