Choose the Right Air Purifier for your Condition

Air Purifier           Air purifiers are devices which filter the incoming air and remove many pollutants including dust, allergens, and odors. There are many types of air purifiers on the market. Whether you have severe seasonal allergies or are just looking to freshen the air in your home, there exists an air purifier specific to your needs. Breathing fresh clean air can make you healthier and live longer. Follow these steps to select the right air purifier for you.

Step 1

Determine the severity of your air purification needs. You must first figure out if you are allergic and what you are allergic to. You may have an allergy to dust mites, pollen, or pet dander. Not all air purifier can remove allergens so determine what you need first before making any purchases.

Step 2

At minimum choose a basic air purifier. Basic air purifiers have a screen filter to trap large dust and dirt particles. They usually have a fan to circulate air around the room as well. These are the cheapest model air purifiers and will do no good if you have allergies.

Step 3

If you are looking for more protection then you need an air purifier with a HEPA filter. A HEPA filter is a filter that can remove particles from the air as small as .3 micrometers. This includes filtering dust mites, pet dander, and many types of mold spores as well as other seasonal allergens. Air purifiers with HEPA filters are generally more expensive purifiers.

Step 4

For the most advanced protection choose an air purifier that contains not only a HEPA filter but also a charcoal filter as well. Charcoal filters are activated to remove many types of odors from the air. These odors can be anything from burnt food smells to perfumes.

Step 5

The ultimate air purifiers as well as the most expensive have multiple filters including pre filters, HEPA filters, charcoal filters, and ion generators. Ion generators create negative ions in the air which attach to particles such as allergens and dust causing them to fall to the ground.

Additional Advice

You must clean many of the filters in your air purifier. Follow the instructions in your air purifier’s manual for proper cleaning schedules.

Run your air purifier all day long at a low setting. It is better to keep the air continually exchanging so that it is always being filtered.
