How to Get Antioxidants in your Diet

Antioxidants          Antioxidants are molecules that prevent or slow the negative effects of oxidative damage. Oxidative damage causes many detrimental effects in the human body such as wrinkles, premature aging, and cellular destruction of the body. It has been proven that antioxidants can slow the aging process in people and decrease free radical damage. Follow these steps to increase the amount of antioxidants in your diet and start seeing benefits immediately.

Step 1

Take a daily multivitamin. Multivitamins are full of many different antioxidants including vitamin C, vitamin E, and selenium.

Step 2

FruitsIncrease your intake of fruits into your diet. Most fruits are high in a wide variety of antioxidants. For example apples and oranges have a lot of Vitamin C. Strawberries contain manganese, another antioxidant.

Step 3

SodaReplace your intake of soda with fruit juices. Fruit juices contain almost as many antioxidants as their solid fruit counterparts (less due to the lack of skin of the fruit where many nutrients are found). You will be performing two functions here eliminating bad acidic drinks from your diet and replacing them with healthy antioxidant rich ones.

Step 4

VegetablesStart eating more vegetables in your diet. Certain vegetables are high in antioxidants including peppers and spinach.

Step 5

ChocolateEat some dark chocolate, seriously. Dark chocolate has been shown to contain flavanols which are antioxidants.

Step 6

Occasionally drink a little red wine. Red wine contains resveratrol which is a potent antioxidant found to have cancer fighting properties.


Additional Advice

                   Steam cook your vegetables. This is the most efficient cooking method to retain as many of the antioxidants and enzymes within the vegetables before you eat them.

                   Boiling your vegetables will remove some of the antioxidants by leeching them into the boiling water.
