Identify Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms

Rheumatoid Arthritis in the Joints           Rheumatoid arthritis is caused by an over active inflammatory response of the body to its own joint tissue. Rheumatoid arthritis is characterized by degeneration of the joints in the body, inflammation, and pain. Sometimes with rheumatoid arthritis it is difficult to get out of bed in the morning, as every joint is stiff. It then takes a while to begin moving normally. Rheumatoid arthritis can affect almost any joint in the body including the elbows, knees, wrists, fingers, and hips. Look at the steps below to help identify whether you have regular arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.

Step 1

Determine the age when you first started having arthritis symptoms. The earlier the age at which you exhibit arthritis symptoms the higher the chances are that it may be rheumatoid arthritis. Since regular arthritis is caused by joint degeneration from overuse and age it occurs primarily in the elderly. However rheumatoid arthritis can and does occur at any age as it is an immune system malfunction. In fact even people in their 20’s can be crippled from rheumatoid arthritis.

Step 2

Ask your parents if there is a family history of rheumatoid arthritis. Rheumatoid arthritis is a genetic condition which means it may be passed down from either father or mother. If one of your parents has rheumatoid arthritis there is a good chance the arthritis you are experiencing is that condition. Make sure you inform your primary care physician of all your family history of rheumatoid arthritis.

Step 3

Check the severity of your arthritis pain symptoms. Is your pain in more than several joints of your body? Is the pain so severe that it interferes with most of your daily activities? Have your joints deformed so that your limbs are no longer straight? If you answered yes to any of these questions, contact your medical care professional as you may have rheumatoid arthritis.
