MARTA or the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority is Atlanta, Georgia’s main rapid transit authority system. It is not an expansive subway system in terms of station stops as compared to New York City or Boston. However Marta is a bit simpler in design.

Step 1

You can buy a single one way Marta fare for $2.00. There is a 10 trip card sold at RideStores for 20 bucks. You can buy a 20 trip card for $34 dollars. There is a 7 day pass for $15 dollars or a 30 day pass for $60 dollars. You can buy a student monthly pass as well if you are a university student for a discount of $15 dollars off. The cards used to put money on are known as Breeze cards.

Step 2

Learn the basic structure of the Marta subway system. The Atlanta subway is separated into the Blue, Red, Gold, and Green lines. The Blue line runs from Indian Creek to Hamilton Homes, the Red line goes from North Springs to the airport, the Gold line goes from Dorraville, Georgia to the Airport, and the Green line runs from Bonkhead to Edgewood. Other stops on the Red and Yellow lines include Lindbergh Center, Arts Center, Midtown, Civic Center, Peachtree Center, Five Points, West End, Oakland City, Lakewood, Eastpoint and college park. Combined stops on the Blue and Green lines include Ashby, Vine City, Philips Arena, CNN Center, Georgia State, King Memorial, Inman Park, and Edgewood, Candler Park.

Step 3

Atlanta subway Marta trains operate from 5 am on weekdays to 1 am at night. The buses run from 5 am to 1:30 am during the week and 5 am to 12:30 am on weekends. Trains usually arrive between 12 to 15 minutes apart.
